“Each of you should use what-ever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1Peter 4:10
Several years ago, Metropolitan Ministries opened their doors, offering area churches and organizations opportunities to partner with them as volunteers at Miracles of Pasco County residential facility. The facility is designed to help single parents and families who need a roof over their head, food to eat, and childcare while they receive job training/assistance and resources to help them become self-supporting and successful.
Initially, LCR’s MVPs helped out as food servers, but as Metro Min grew its culinary program on site, need for food-service help during LCR’s allotted timeslot dwindled – but not the need for HOPE! As Christians, we know we are always being made new, adapting to the ever-changing needs of others. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12
In March, April and July, MVPs were able to supply 3 new moms with baby clothes, diapers, toys and other assorted necessities for their little ones. Metropolitan Ministries staff couldn’t thank us enough for the generous outpouring of love for the expectant mothers and their bundles of joy – from the homemade quilts and caps to the sweet little baby booties and everything in between! They were also grateful to hear how blessings had been poured on these items while the baskets were on the altar during worship.
During the year, MVPs were also able to deliver much-needed baby and toddler clothes, games, books and toys. The families are often starting from scratch as they were facing homelessness prior to arriving at Miracles of Pasco.
“I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:36
One new mom summed it up, exclaiming, “thank you so much, we are in a good place, we are blessed!” The Metro staff said that “MVPs are HOPE to our residents”, thank you!
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “ Matthew 25:40
Let’s continue to be hope, and to live out God’s commandments by loving each other, and the “least of these”. Whether you sew, crochet, or shop, please keep in mind that we may be CALLED upon as new expectant moms arrive with nothing!
Due to the increased number of families, there are now 2 shifts for dinner. The Miracles of Pasco facility cooks for and serves up to 24 families, 3 meals a day/7 days a week, and Chef Peter does this without assistance. This provides a similar opportunity to MVPs’ original mission to extend the arms of Jesus. If you are interested in serving or food preparation at Metropolitan Ministries Miracles of Pasco residential facility, please contact Chef Peter directly. Since they are so organized, only 1-3 volunteers at a time are needed . Please be sure to wear closed toed shoes.
