I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. John 15:1 (NRSV)
Goodbyes and hellos are important
They mark the beginnings and endings of time together and mark the movement of life and the kingdom among us. Every person brings gifts and personality, stories and experience into the community. It can be challenging to open ourselves up to build new relationships and connections…creating new friendships can require intentional effort.
The good news comes to us on several levels. Jesus did leave, but only after assurances of how the kingdom works – God will always have something next in store. There will be signs and reflections of God all around us, in us and working through us.
This is why we can relax a little as life occurs, changes abound and newness comes upon us. The kingdom continues to move day after day. Take time to relish and cherish the gifts that are our friends and companions along the journey.
