Metropolitan Volunteer Partners – MVPs
“Each of you should use what-ever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1Peter 4:10
Several years ago, Metropolitan Ministries opened their doors, offering area churches and organizations opportunities to partner with them as volunteers at Miracles of Pasco County residential facility. The facility is designed to help single parents and families who need a roof over their head, food to eat, and childcare while they receive job training/assistance and resources to help them become self-supporting and successful.
Initially, LCR’s MVPs helped out as food servers, but as Metro Min grew its culinary program on site, need for food-service help during LCR’s allotted timeslot dwindled – but not the need for HOPE! As Christians, we know we are always being made new, adapting to the ever-changing needs of others. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12
On July 18th this year, MVPs received an email from the Metropolitan Ministries Team Lead asking if we could “shower” their expectant mom, Melissa at the Miracles of Pasco residential facility, who was due on August 1st! It wasn’t a lot of notice, but the word got out, and LCR responded as always!
In order to have the items blessed during worship, it was asked that donations be brought to church by July 29th. That is the same day that Metro mom, Melissa, gave birth to a beautiful 6lb 10 oz baby boy, Jakob!
A small group gathered up the items and took them up to Melissa and Jakob, and siblings Azaea and Joshua. Big brother and sister helped open the gifts, while mom held sweet little Jakob. We enjoyed our short time together, prayed over their family and shared the Love of Christ through your generous donations. In such a short time, MVPs were able to collect a crocheted blanket and booties, clothes, diapers, bibs, a diaper bag, wipes, baby bath items, plush toys, and assorted other cute little baby items! “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:36
Melissa said, “thank you so much, we are in a good place, we are blessed!” The Metro staff said that “you are HOPE to our residents”, thank you!
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “ Matthew 25:40
Let’s continue to be hope, and to live out God’s commandments by loving each other, and the “least of these”. Whether you sew, crochet, or shop, please keep in mind that we may be CALLED upon as new expectant moms arrive with nothing!
Due to the increased number of families, there are now 2 shifts for dinner. The Miracles of Pasco facility cooks for and serves up to 24 families, 3 meals a day/7 days a week, and Chef Peter does this without assistance. This provides a similar opportunity to MVPs’ original mission to extend the arms of Jesus. If you are interested in serving or food preparation at Metropolitan Ministries Miracles of Pasco residential facility, please contact Chef Peter directly. Since they are so organized, only 1-3 volunteers at a time are needed . Please be sure to wear closed toed shoes.
Another seasonal opportunity to serve is at the Metro Pasco site on US 19 distributing food and toys for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you are interested in another great opportunity to share the love of Christ, please check out the opportunities on their website here.
