Metropolitan Volunteer Partners – MVPs
“Each of you should use what-ever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1Peter 4:10
Many may not know exactly what LCR does in partnership with Metropolitan Ministries, so let me briefly explain.
Each month on the 4th and 5th (if there is one) Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7 (ish) we serve the families residing in the Miracles for Pasco County-supported housing facility owned and operated by Metropolitan Ministries.
The facility is designed to help single parents and families who need a roof over their heads, food to eat, and childcare while they receive job training, assistance and resources to help them to be self-supporting and successful. The meals are cooked on site by staff and students in the Metropolitan Ministries culinary program, which is just one job training opportunity provided to the residents.
MVPs typically serve between 5-12 families each night. The serving line is very organized, so it is not difficult at all. The staff on site brings out the items to be served and provides you with everything you need. While not required, volunteers are encouraged to sit and eat with the residents. Basically, we are serving a hot meal, giving a warm smile, a kind word and a listening ear to those who need it. I promise you, it is very rewarding!
Only 1-2 volunteers are needed for each month, so schedules are very flexible.
The 4th and 5th Tuesdays are the time slot LCR has committed to supporting. Please prayerfully consider being the face of Jesus to this community. For more information, or to sign up for additional time slots, go to: http://www.metromin.org/volunteer/group-volunteering.html
New volunteers are always needed, so if you are interested, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Kim Feeney @ 727-735-4851.
