Connecting the East Lake community and beyond

SNOWFEST!

30 Tons of SNOW! 3 Sledding Hills! Building Snowmen and at the end of it all you can walk right back into warm Florida weather!   Once again on Sat. Dec 14, SNOWFEST will be held for the entire community at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection (SW corner of East Lake Rd and Village Center Dr). The day will be divided into a Family Focus (1-6pm) during the day and an Adult Focus (6-10pm) in the evening. The Family Focus will include Snow Hill Sledding, Snowman building, Bounce houses, Gift Fair, Contests, Prizes, Raffles, Face Painting, Campfire with S’mores, Food Trucks, Santa and much more! The Adult Focus (6-10pm) will feature sledding under the lights, a Live Band, Dancing, Raffles, Wine Pull, Cash Bar (Wine/Beer only) and Tree Lighting Ceremony. A free Kid’s Movie is on the schedule, so parents can enjoy some time together on the slopes or dance floor! LCR and American Legion Post 46 are sponsors of the event and invite everyone to join in the fun!

The partnership between the American Legion Post 46 and LCR focuses on Youth Programming and Scholarships with several scholarships and recognitions already presented through local schools. This focus has helped shape the Wednesday Night Out (WNO) program (A Full Meal for $7; 4 meals for $20) that provides more family time around the dinner table and just being together while Chef Joe and his staff take the pressure off meal preparation. The WNO program flows right into BINGO which is another opportunity for neighborhood friends to come together and enjoy an evening of fun.

These programs have helped LCR recently hire its full-time Director of Youth Programs, Caleb Mitchell. As former Director of Programming with the Brandon area YMCA and 20+ years of music ministry experience, Caleb comes as a significant addition to the church staff, attracting even more youth to gather, have fun, tackle the real issues of being a youth today and grow at LCR.

The 5-acre park-like LCR campus hosts many events, regularly attracting hundreds from the community. A few other upcoming events are the Christmas Extravaganza on December 7 & 8, featuring 3 performances of the Christmas Concert, “Tiny Little Town” and a full prime rib dinner with all the fixin’s. Winter Concert Series II, beginning in February highlights Ruth Eckerd Hall quality performers in a much more intimate venue. Contact the church office (727-785-1117) or go to www.mylcr.org for more information and tickets for both events.
