East Lake Educational Resource Services (EERS) After-school Club
Afterschool programs are particularly flexible institutions that seek to complement and support the primary institutions of family and school. These programs often fill gaps in education and care, provide a safe place for students during out-of-school hours, and notably, offer mentoring and youth development supports or resources other institutions cannot or will not provide — particularly for children from low- and moderate-income families.
What is EERS After-school Club? EERS After-school Club is a free after-school program for middle and high school youth in Palm Harbor and the surrounding communities of Northern Pinellas County. This program is based at EERS, located at 1555 Windmill Pointe Road in Palm Harbor. EERS After-school Club operates Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the academic year, beginning April 6, 2020.
The primary goals of EERS After-school Club are to assist students with academic assignments, provide tutoring, and develop interests. The program is designed to serve approximately 30 to 40 students, divided into Middle School and High School sections. Each section has a different focus for support appropriate to the age and needs of individual students, with the broad aim of fostering student success at both school and home.
At EERS After-school Club, we offer students structured homework and tutoring time, as well as opportunities to expand academic interests in fun ways. For those students who do not need assistance with specific homework assignments on a particular day, the site coordinator will assign other activities, such as academic tutoring. This tutoring will target foundational skills in Reading and Math — key content areas necessary to master Florida Standards Assessments (FSA), meet graduation requirements, and promote post-graduation success. Tutoring will be provided by retired or current teachers. At EERS After-school Club, we seek to offer academic support and tutoring within small groups or on a one-on-one basis, as best meets the needs of students and goals of the program.
